Growing government, shrinking non profits

City of Tampa firefighters might take a lesson from the recent changes made by the non-profit that provides relief many who lose their home to fire.

According to the Tampa Tribune:

With donors tightening their purse strings and investments hurting, the local chapter of the American Red Cross has laid off 22 employees, almost half its staff.

The remaining staff all will be taking a salary reduction as part of a larger expense-reduction plan.

It is our volunteers that are going to ensure we have no interruption in service.

First responders are important but like non-profit workers and other public servants they are here for the benefit of the community as a whole, which may require restraint during times when the community they serve as a whole is restrained.
